GOURMET YARDENING: CREATING A TREE RING
Help create a tree ring around a small tree during this hands-on session. Beautiful, crisp, natural dirt edges are possible and practical using the technique perfected by Will Hodge, Gourmet Yardener. Once you establish your "gourmet" edge, maintaining its crisp contours will be a snap. To learn how, attend this seminar and receive your very own Gourmet Yardener's Manual complete with directions, illustrations and 11-minute instructional DVD. During this workshop you will learn why and how to use a rain barrel. Don't settle for purchasing those pre-made rain barrels. Come make your very own for home use! Your rain barrel will be made with a 55-gallon barrel, so bring an appropriately sized vehicle to haul it home.

Join us in the Gardens for an afternoon of delightful aromas and tastes. Discover many medicinal and culinary herbs in the Heartland Harvest Garden kitchen garden. This hands-on workshop includes harvesting herbs and making teas and other culinary delights. Enjoy a tour of the Heartland Harvest Garden with your instructor. Lynn Johnson is a certified instructor in Energy Healing, and has been providing her clients with services including Herbal Wellness, Aromatherapy and Yoga for the past eight years.

BUTTERFLY PHOTOGRAPHY FOR BEGINNERS
Get guided practice on capturing stunning photos in Powell Gardens' Butterfly Conservatory without being jostled by the crowd. If you are new to macro photography, this is the class for you. After learning and reviewing some basic photography tips, your instructor will lead you and the other participants in a private photography session in the Butterfly Conservatory. Imagine the photos you can create with the watchful eye of an experienced photographer and all the elbow room you could need! Once the conservatory opens to the public at 10 a.m., the class will relocate outdoors and participants will continue to hone their new skills on our beautiful local butterfly species. All camera types are welcome. Please bring your camera, memory cards or film. A tripod and flash are recommended.

HALF-BARREL WREN GARDEN
A half-barrel overflows with plants. But wait! What's this? A cute spouting wren ornament is cheerily making a splash in a secluded bird bath. Come build a container garden with a water feature that's great for decks and small spaces. This container is easy to assemble and maintain. Learn tips and techniques for creating water features in small spaces and how to keep them light and portable. We'll get you started with a pump and some great plant giveaways. All materials will be provided, including a resin-cast half barrel.
