YOUTH & FAMILY
KIDS' CLUB 2010
Powell Gardens' Kids' Club hosts fun activities for children 5-12 spring through the fall. Monthly programs will feature guided walks and behind-the-scenes tours with plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with the plants and bugs that inhabit the Gardens' natural world.

The Kids' Club will meet from 10-11 a.m. on the second Saturday from April through October. Parents must accompany children ages 7 and under. In addition to the programs, members will receive a T-shirt and button, door-prize drawings, a kid's e-newsletter, discounts in the gift shop and a free drink from Cafe Thyme on meeting days.

June 12 A Walk on the Wild Side
Back by popular demand! Join us for a guided hike on the Byron Shutz Nature Trail.

July 10 Wet & Wild
Explore the thriving underwater world as we dip into the pond and examine what we find. All members are invited to bring their swim gear and stay afterward for a splash session in the Fountain Garden.

August 14 Butterfly Bonanza
Help us release native butterflies for our Festival of Butterflies exhibit, then stay for a program by local moth and butterfly experts. Each member also will receive a free set of butterfly wings to decorate after the meeting!

September 11 Bug Hunters
This month, we'll form a team of bug hunters as we learn about the often-overlooked garden heroes such as spiders, insects and frogs.

October 9 Scarecrow Building
We will learn about the history of these traditional garden guardians and then break into small groups to make our own collection of scarecrows to be displayed at the Gardens.

$30/year for non-Members, $15/year for Members

CHEF SOUFFLE'S KID COOKS (FAMILIES, AGES 6-10)
Summer Sizzling Side Dishes for Kids
Join aspiring cook, local food nut and weekend gardener Chef Souffle and his Sous Chef Eric for an afternoon of fun-filled cooking. Each session is themed on seasonal vegetables or fruits found in the Heartland Harvest Garden. Each recipe calls for three main ingredients-fresh food, family and fun. Part kitchen demo, part puppet show, your child will learn about healthy foods, basic kitchen safety and the importance of being physically active. So peel that couch potato off the cushion and head over to Fun Foods Farm for some fresh, family fun!

An adult family member must accompany and assist each child in attendance for the duration of the program. Dress for the weather and consider sunscreen. A portion of the program will take place outdoors as weather permits. Recipes and samples included. Consider any allergies prior to attending and sampling. Fee includes all materials and Gardens' admission.

Session III: Tomato Americana
Tomatoes are the secret ingredient to two kid-friendly dishes. Come pick ingredients for a simple salsa served with corn chips and help make a simple marinara to try with pasta.

Sunday, August 29, 2-3:30 p.m.
$12/child, $9/Members' child per session
$9/adult, free/Adult Members per session
