A 5K Run/Walk & Nature Trail Trek

September 6, 2014

It's our fourth annual 5K Run/Walk at Powell Gardens! Savor the sights and sounds of nature as you follow the timed 5K course with views of the lake. After the race, enjoy garden-fresh snacks and all-day access to the Gardens and the Gardens Gone Wild exhibit. An optional non-competitive trail trek on the 3.25-mile Byron Shutz Nature Trail follows the 5K.

While you enjoy time together with friends and family, you'll also be supporting Powell Gardens' efforts to reach students who might not otherwise be able to experience Powell Gardens through our youth education programs. With your support, low-income children from around the Greater Kansas City metro will have the chance to learn about healthy lifestyles with all five senses in the Heartland Harvest Garden.

Help us share the Gardens' goodness by forming a team, raising additional funds or sponsoring the event. Together with your friends, family and co-workers you can make a difference by sharing the Gardens with those who need it most!

Share the Gardens' Goodness and Win!

All proceeds from the 2014 Run Fast | Eat Slow event will help raise funds to bring more schoolchildren to Powell Gardens, where they will use all five senses to learn about healthy lifestyles. When you put a team together and join our fund-raising contest, you are sharing the Gardens' goodness with those who would otherwise miss out.

Getting involved is easy

You don't have to fill out any special forms--just recruit your friends and family to sign up for the event under the team name you specify. Those who can't make the event in person can still support your efforts by making an online donation under your team name. We'll track who raises the most money overall and award prizes accordingly.

What could I win?

Good question! The top fundraiser will get to attend a Sprint Center event in the KCP&L suite set aside for the exclusive use of the winner and his or her guests. More details about this great opportunity to see a show in high style will be announced soon.

The second place prize is a pair of tickets to the final event in the Missouri Barn Dinner series. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience a one-night-only menu by Gram & Dun chefs Mickey Priolo and Rick Mullins in the beauty of the Heartland Harvest Garden.

Third place involves a gift certificate to a delicious locally owned restaurant and some other goodies. What about the rest of the team? Every member of the top three winning teams will receive passes to Powell Gardens' Harvest Celebration on Oct. 4 and 5.

Any other way to win cool prizes?

Yes! Run fast because we'll be awarding trophies to the top overall male and female runners, plus first through third place medals by gender for each age group.

But that's not all

New for 2014 is a costume contest. Because this event focuses on sharing the goodness of the Heartland Harvest Garden--the nation's largest edible landscape--we will award a fun prize to the participant with the best fruit or vegetable costume!
